Laser Hair Removal
A popular and effective service, laser hair removal can permanently reduce unwanted hair for most patients. This exciting treatment can make skin soft, smooth, and beautiful without the pain and inconvenience of temporary hair removal techniques. Information on Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal works by sending a beam of laser light to a group of hair follicles with enough energy to destroy the root, but not enough power to harm the surrounding skin. Most laser hair removal patients at our Chicago, Illinois center require multiple treatments because the procedure is most effective when hair is in the growth stage. However, because hair growth occurs in phases, not all follicles will be in this stage at one time. Optimum results can typically be achieved in six treatments or less. Patients may experience mild discomfort or a tingling sensation, but overall the technique is very gentle, and most laser hair removal patients are able to return to normal activities immediately after treatment with no downtime.
Laser hair removal is an exciting treatment, but it is not right for everyone. Candidates for the procedure must have hair that is darker than the surrounding skin. Individuals with light hair or dark skin typically do not respond to treatment. At our Chicago center, laser hair removal patients will be carefully evaluated to determine candidacy prior to undergoing treatment.

Older hair removal techniques such as waxing and electrolysis can be very uncomfortable, and results are either temporary (waxing) or take years to achieve (electrolysis). As the CoolGlide® handpiece glides gently over treatment areas, the handpiece emits pulses of laser light while simultaneously cooling and soothing the skin. Side effects are rare and minimal; the most common complication is the temporary reddening of skin, similar to that of a mild sunburn.
